

Born August 10, 1917, he was a native of Beauregard Parish and a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Upon graduation from LSU in 1941 with a B.S. degree in Animal Science, he served in the Army Air Force for 5 years. Later he earned an M.S. degree in Animal Science from LSU. He worked for the LSU Cooperative Extension Service for 32 years, first as an agent in Claiborne Parish, then as State Livestock Marketing Specialist, retiring in 1979. He was Secretary Treasurer of the Louisiana Brahman Breeders Association for 25 years. He was a Life Member of the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association, American Forestry Association, Epsilon Sigma Phi, Gamma Sigma Delta, Louisiana County Agricultural Agents Association, American Legion, Southern Producers Association, and Milford Masonic Lodge. He also belonged to: The Louisiana Forestry Association, Baton Rouge Scottish Rite Acacia Shrine, and the LSU Block and Bridle Alumni.
He is survived by his wife, Era Madge “Padgie” Ellis McFatter; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lynn and Steve Zimpfer of Athens,GA; daughter-in-law and son, Lisa and William Edward McFatter, II, of Lake Jackson, TX; five grandchildren, Daniel Zimpfer of Fort Smith, AR; Autumn Zimpfer of Athens, GA; Allison, Caroline, and Samantha McFatter of Lake Jackson, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Hixson Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Visitation will be at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 5:00-9:00pm and will resume on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 9:30am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at McFatter Cemetery in DeQuincy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice or to the LSU Foundation, 3838 West Lakeshore Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70803, designated for the Mr. and Mrs. H.E.
