Ida Beatrice McCoy, 80, of DeQuincy, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Christus St. Patrick's Hospital in Lake Charles. She was born to her late parents, Jimmy and Ivory Stewart Palmer on August 27, 1941 in Bonwier, TX. They moved from Bonwier, TX. to DeQuincy, LA. during the Penton Sawmill boom in DeQuincy. She grew up at Morning Star Baptist Church and later joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church under Rev. Winder, where she was baptized. Later, she joined Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Marvin L. Durgan. She was a CNA for many years, working at Douglas Hospital and later with Greenhill Nursing Home (now The Care Center of DeQuincy). She donated food to the Soup Ministry and took great pride in that. She loved to go shopping and would always buy colors of blue. Ida loved to play Bingo with her family and friends, whom she loved very much.
She is survived by three sons, John McCoy of DeQuincy, LA, Don McCoy of Beaumont, TX, Albert McCoy, Jr. of DeQuincy, LA; three daughters, Patsy McCoy Simien of Baton Rouge, LA, Roxanne McCoy of DeQuincy and fiancé Kevin Jordan of Eunice, LA, Lora Ann McClean of California; four grandchildren, Tamika L. Learson and husband "Jerome" of Baton Rouge, LA, Jasmine Goffney and Roshonda Goffney, both of DeQuincy, LA, Robert McClean of California; brother-in-law, Alvin Skinner, Sr. of DeQuincy; sister, Hazel Jackson of DeQuincy, LA; special sister, Bessie Cage of Baton Rouge, LA; sister-in-law, Beatrice Litt; and great granddaughter, Mikah Lyn Learson.
Ida is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 59 years, Albert McCoy, Sr.; daughter, Veronica McCoy; parents; sisters, Lucinda Skinner, Jessie Mae Adams, and Pearlie Mae Moon; brothers, James Calvert Vinson and Ceasar Ray Palmer; along with her in laws, Seges McCoy and Mamie McCoy.
A Celebration of Ida's life will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11:00am at First Church of God In Christ in DeQuincy with Pastor Marvin L. Durgan officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday, from 10:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Community Cemetery.
