

DeQuincy - Mark D. Penny, 54, a native of Ragley and resident of Gillis, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in his residence. He was born April, 6, 1959 in DeQuincy, La. He was a 510/570 API refinery inspector. Mark was an avid LSU football fan. He was a fun loving FREE SPIRIT and to be in his presence, you knew a good time was in store. He loved the outdoors, camping and could build a heck of a fire. He was an aspiring writer. He loved family and his sons, there was nothing he wouldn't do for them. He was the best grandpa you could ask for and loved spending time with his granddaughter, Sadie Penny a.k.a. "The Bug". He was an active member of the family business, Penny and Sons Rodeo Company, and for many years was the rodeo announcer and bull fighter. In 1986 he was chosen and participated in the National Little Britches Finals, in Colorado as a bull fighter (Rodeo Clown) He was loved deeply by his family and will be missed. He was the son of Robert Penny and the late Alpha “Sis” Lyles Penny.He is survived by two loving sons, Tyrel Coleman Penny of New Iberia and Jebediah Cullen Penny of DeQuincy; one granddaughter, Sadie Penny of New Iberia; three brothers, Scott, Gerald and Tim Penny all of DeQuincy; two nieces, one nephew and Laurel Penny of DeQuincy and Jessica Picard of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alpha and Fred Lyles and paternal grandparents, Armenia and Alton Penny. The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 23, 2013 from 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. at Hixson Snider funeral Home. His Memorial Service will be on Wednesday April 24, 2013 at 2:00p.m. at the funeral home Chapel. Burial will be in Alston Cemetery.
