Ollie Ruth Henagan Long, 90, of DeQuincy, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at her son’s home in San Antonio, Texas. A strong woman of faith, Ollie, peacefully went to be with her Savior and family in her sleep. She was born in DeQuincy on December 18, 1929 to Joseph Henagan and Sarah Harvey Henagan.
A lifelong housewife, Ollie raised her two sons and volunteered in numerous areas in the Baptist Churches wherever she lived. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many in DeQuincy and around the United States. She attended First Baptist Church of DeQuincy and spent many years delivering sermon tapes to members, enjoying weekly board/card game days with her friends and making coconut pies for friends, and her beloved chocolate oatmeal cookies for her grandchildren.
Her husband of 59 years, Thomas G. Long, Sr., preceded her in death on April 30, 2016. She had one sister (Lorraine Proctor) and two brothers (Jack and Willie Henagan) who preceded her in death and one sister, Martha H. Luby who resides in Carencro, Louisiana.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Thomas G. Long, Jr. and his wife Mary of San Antonio, TX and David W. Long and his wife Sharon of Spartanburg, SC; four grandchildren (Geoffrey Long and his wife Ashley of San Antonio, TX; Sarah Long of Nashville, TN - children of Thomas and Mary; William Long, Janie Long of Spartanburg, SC – children of David and Sharon) and two great-grandchildren (Grant and Stella Long – children of Geoffrey and Ashley).
Services will be held at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy, on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 11:00am, with Bro. Gil Arthur officiating. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in DeQuincy,on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Visitation will resume at the church on Thursday, from 9:30am until the time of the service. A private burial will follow at Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville, LA.
