

Samuel was a lifelong resident of DeQuincy, LA. He served in the United States Army for 2 years. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad Company for 21 years. He was the first Representative of the Union Pacific’s Operation Life Saver Program for this division, he was President of The Louisiana Trapper and Alligator Association, Chairman of the Alligator and Fur Council of Louisiana, Representative for Louisiana National Trapper Association, Regional Vice President of Furbearers Unlimited. He was also a part of the International Legion Fur Council of Louisiana. He has followed and supported his children and grandchildren in their sporting events. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend who will be missed greatly.
Those left to cherish his memories is his loving wife of 50 years; Paralee Smith, two sons; Samuel “Dude” Smith and wife Paula of Clear Lake, TX., Charlie Smith and wife Jill of DeQuincy, LA., one brother; Charles Smith and wife Annie Jane of DeQuincy, LA., four grandchildren; Chas Smith, Sam Smith III, Will Smith and Claire Smith, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by both parents; John and Mary Smith,.one niece; Jamie Cooper and one nephew; James Joseph “Sonny” Smith.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 3:00pm until 10:00pm at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy, Visitation will resume on Monday at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy from 10:00am until time of service.
Funeral Service will be at 3:00pm Monday, May 4, 2015 at The Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy, with the burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers; donations may be made to Big Red Football Booster Club.
