

He was born May 30, 1928 in Big Stone Gap, VA to David and Leva (Alvis) Long who preceded him in death. Three brothers and four sisters also preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years Ollie Henagan Long of DeQuincy; two sons Thomas Gilmer Long Jr. and his wife Mary of San Antonio, TX, and David Warren Long and his wife Sharon of Spartanburg, S.C. and; four grandchildren Geoffrey and his wife Ashley, Sarah, William and Janie Marie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attended First Baptist Church of DeQuincy. He worked in construction for many years for several different companies. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Tom loved to laugh, joke and he was known for his commemorative military plaques that he donated to families and museums.
A visitation will be Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 5 to 8 pm and will resume Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 10:00 am until the service at the First Baptist Church of DeQuincy. The Funeral will be Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 11:00 am at the church, the Rev’s Gil Arthur and Bill Standley will officiate. Burial will be at the Central Louisiana Veteran Cemetery in Leesville.
