April 12, 1931 – December 23, 2025
Arthur Gail Trierweiler went home to be with his heavenly Father on December 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and the values that defined his life: commitment to hard work, deep love for his family and his unwavering religious faith.
Born April 12, 1931, in Lansing, Michigan to Michael and Bertha (Wirth) Trierweiler, he was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife JoAn, brothers Alvin (Jean), and Giles (Helen) along with nephew (and godson) Michael and nephew Patrick.
Early in his life he learned the importance of providing for family as he helped his widowed mother maintain her home when his older brothers were called to war. It was then that he met his future wife, JoAn Hufnagel at a local dance near the end of graduating from Resurrection High School. They married and celebrated nearly 70 years together before her passing in 2021.
Art was a true salesman, beginning his career as a milkman for Heatherwood Farms, initially delivering with a horse and trailer and later with a milk truck. A career change led to sales in Block and Brick at Karber Block and finally at Darling Builders Supply where he was entrusted by many and a friend to ALL.
Family time was important and although there were 7 children, the gifts were many. He supported his children with lessons in music, art, ballet and swimming. He also coached CWV Baseball, (many players calling him ‘Coach’ to this day). He enjoyed spending time with his sons hunting, but his true passion was fishing and will be remembered for teaching the whole family to fish at the cottage on Horsehead Lake. His love of fishing led to “The Annual Trierweiler Bass Tournament” which was held for many years. Wanting more family time, he gave up bowling and golf but continued to enjoy ‘Euchre’ with in-laws. He was also known for his ‘special’ Whiskey Sour recipe which he thankfully passed down to family.
Arthur’s Catholic faith was important to him, belonging to Church of the Resurrection (Lansing), St. Michael’s Parish (Remus) and St. Jude Catholic Church (Dewitt). He delivered Mobile Meals to those in need. He also served his Lansing community on the Zoning Board of Appeals 1969-1981 and chairman 1976-1977.
Arthur is survived by his 7 children and spouses: 14 grandchildren and spouses: 7 great grandchildren and many nieces/nephews and families.
The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful staff at Ingham County Medical Care Facility who took such loving care of “Pops.” We would also like to thank the devoted staff at Heart to Heart Hospice, (especially Michael Cosby), for the personal time and attention given to our dad. Finally, thank you Julie(daughter) for all the sacrifices you made these past years to ensure Dad (and Mom) were treated with grace and dignity.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Foundation of Support to Ingham County Medical Care Facility, 3860 Dobie Rd., Okemos, MI 48864; Heart to Heart Hospice, 2260 E. Saginaw St. East Lansing, MI 48823; or Mecosta County Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1038, Big Rapids, MI 49307 in memory of Arthur.
Condolences may be shared with the family at www.grdewitt.com for the Trierweiler family.
His Master said to him. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
