Carol Ann (Humphrey) Berryhill of Lansing passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020 at age 86. She was born February 11, 1934 in Lansing, Michigan and graduated from Sexton High School. Carol married Dewey Berryhill on May 22, 1954. She was seven years old swinging on a swing set at the Grove area school the first time she met her future husband. The couple were married for 65 years.
Carol worked at the State of Michigan Department of Health prior to starting her family and becoming a homemaker. She worked for the American Cancer Society as a volunteer for over 25 years and was herself a breast cancer survivor for over 40 years. She was a lifelong member of the Delta Mills United Methodist Church. Carol was a 4H leader for sewing for her two daughters and the neighborhood girls. She loved helping out at her at daughters’ schools as a home room mother where she enjoyed making snacks for all the holidays during the school year.
Carol was an avid cook/baker and liked to try new recipes. She was a devoted grandmother who always made wonderful snacks for her grandchildren. She loved going to all her grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on. Carol loved homemade ice cream, but loved more the getting together with her children and grandchildren that always came with the preparation and enjoyment of making ice cream. She enjoyed Saubee lake and her pontoon rides but especially loved the night time bonfire. When everyone else was enjoying s’mores, Carol only wanted a golden-brown roasted marshmallow that was hand-roasted by her granddaughter Kimi. In the earlier years she loved playing card games and board games when the family got together.
Carol enjoyed many annual trips up north mushroom hunting. She enjoyed getting together every month at the Local 602 meetings where she enjoyed a meal with friends and then enjoyed the games of bingo that followed the meetings. Her bird feeders were always full and Carol loved to watch the many birds that they attracted. She especially loved to watch the hummingbirds. Carol had a natural green-thumb and enjoyed her many flowers in the spring and summer. She bought a Fuchsia plant every year in the spring and cared for them until fall. These Fuchsia plants were a staple every year because the hummingbirds loved them.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Myron and Vivian Humphrey and by her sister Donna (Harold) Patrick. She is survived by her husband Dewey Berryhill and brother Dennis (Mary) Humphrey; sister-in-law Luanne Berryhill; her children Brenda Taylor and Debra (Kirt) Gundry; her grandchildren John (Kate) Gundry, Kimberlee (Aaron Wente) Gundry, Kyle Taylor, and Samara Taylor; and her great-grandchild Jaxon Gundry; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Carol will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Lansing attended only by close family due to the current restrictions on large gatherings.
