“Dee”
Harry was born in Lansing, MI on October 4, 1924 and passed away suddenly at home on July 28, 2015 at the age of 90. Harry married the love of his life Jennie Mae Riggle on March 1, 1947, and from that day for the next 65 years he remained devoted, always by her side, like a knight in shining armor. He sadly lost Jennie, his true love and best friend in 2013.
Harry was an incredibly loving and dedicated father to his children Tom and Nancy. He provided them with a sound foundation for life through his examples, hard work, and endless support. He busted with pride over his grandchildren that affectionately referred to him as “Dee”, and was always giving them something to laugh about. He was always “Dad” to his son-in-law, Greg, sharing their love of family, sports, and hunting.
Harry was a proud World War II Veteran who served in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He served in the Navy aboard the S.S. Abernathy, the U.S.E.D. Chester Harding, the S.S. Fleetwood and the S.S. Memmon. He always felt fortunate for the years he was able to serve his country and for the opportunity it provided him to see the world.
Harry began working on the farm at a very young age with his brother Chuck. This was the beginning of his remarkable work ethic that carried through his entire life. He began his career at Oldsmobile working on the hammers at the Forge Plant, later working within skilled trades, and then retiring after 36 years.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Mae; son, Thomas Harry Henderson; sister, Alice (Don) Cragg; brother, Charles Henderson; and in-laws, Harley and Eula Riggle, Bud and Rene Riggle, LaVera and Roy Freelan, and Neva and Pete Zdybel. Surviving to cherish his memory are daughter, Nancy J. Freeman-Klco (Greg) of Mason; grandchildren, Holly (Matt) Johnson, Kara Mae Freeman, Kristina Klco, Jenny (Kyle) Urquhart; great-granddaughter, Destiny; sister-in-law, Arlene Carey; and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Monday, August 3, 2015 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI. Interment will be at DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5-8:00pm.
Those desiring may make contributions in the memory of his loved ones, Jennie Henderson and Thomas Henderson, to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, PO Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909.
