

Helen Marie Schafer was born March 27, 1933 in Fowler, MI, the daughter of the late Arnold and Pauline (Wieber) Miller, and passed away on August 18, 2017 at the age of 84. Helen Marie was employed by Oldsmobile, Service Bureau Corporation and retired from the State of MI in 1992. She married Paul H. Schafer, the love of her life, on May 15, 1954 and he preceded her in death on September 23, 2002 after 48 years of marriage. Helen Marie loved spending time with her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren and enjoyed music, dancing, fishing and wintering in Mesa AZ. In addition to her husband, Helen Marie was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin and Lester Miller; sisters-in-law, Judy and Juliann Miller; and brother-in-law, Donald Fox. She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Cherie Covell of DeWitt, Diane (Kim) Winkler of DeWitt and Linda (Greg) Tarrant of Bath; eight grandchildren, Aimee (Damon) Schafer, Lori (Eric) Larsen, Brandon, Kristen and Erin Winkler, Leah (Matt) Villarreal, Devin and Alyssa Tarrant; six great grandchildren, Brock, Ava, Vivienne, Brennan, Ellison and Adeline; sister, Dolores Fox of Howell; and brother, Hilary (Gerry) Miller of Lansing. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge St., DeWitt with Rev. Robert Irish officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday, August 22 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt with the Rosary being prayed at 7:00 pm. Rite of Christian Burial will be held at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler. The family would like to thank the staff at Rosewood AFC of DeWitt for the love and support that they gave to Helen Marie during her stay there.
