Howard Michael “Pete” Blust, age 78, passed away June 20, 2018. He was born February 16, 1940 in Tawas City, MI, the son of Michael and Josephine (Birkenbach) Blust. From 1957 to 1960, he served his nation in the U.S. Army, spending most of that time at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He married Kathleen “Cass” Galliker on July 28, 1973. Pete stayed active as a Boy Scout leader and counted gardening, fishing, hunting, and cars as among his interests. He worked at General Motors for 34 years, retiring from there in 1999.
Pete is survived by his children, Scott (Tonya) Blust and Jill (Adam) Walters, and his granddaughter, Lillian Walters. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann (Charlie) Kujawa and Betty Bellinger; sister-in-law, Sharon Blust-Harris and his brother, Joseph (Debbie) Blust; as well as by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cass; his parents; and his brother, Michael Blust, Jr.
Visitation will be held at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt, on Monday, June 25 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be said that evening at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive family and friends an hour prior to the service. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
