Iva Mae Ricks, nee Robbins, of Bath died Saturday, April 16th at the age of 98. Iva was born and raised in Dearborn and moved to the Lansing area when she married Kenneth L. Ricks in 1941. They purchased a farm in Bath shortly after and raised 3 children, Morgan horses, and any number of pets over her 75 years on the farm. The farm became a playground and favorite visiting spot for family and friends. She graduated from Michigan State when her children were young and taught for two years but found family, farm and community time more rewarding. Her real passion was architecture, especially home design and she designed her daughter's home at the age of 93.
Iva was an avid reader, knitter, bridge player and fan of public radio and old movies. She and Ken loved traveling with their Airstream friends and went on many caravans around the U.S and other countries. She instilled the love of learning and international travel to her children and grandchildren.
She was the family matriarch and considered "Grandma" to a large extended family including friends from here and various countries. She loved and was loved by family, friends and community and will be sorely missed.
Iva is survived by Marilyn (Jonathan) Washington, Gary (Marti) Ricks, Michael Ricks (James Roberts), 5 grandchildren and spouses, and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband of 60+ years, a sister and a brother.
A memorial service will be held on May 29, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Bath United Methodist Church, 13777 Main St. Bath, MI 48808. For those desiring, memorial contributions in Iva’s name may be made to Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat, North Family Camp, 5807 North Ridge Rd. Pentwater, MI 49449.
