

Jean L. Whaley, born November 5, 1936 to James L. and Ruth Caroline (Knapp) Thomas, passed away September 4, 2013. Mrs. Whaley was a retired secretary from Lansing’s Otto Junior High School. Jean loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed crafting, gardening, playing bingo and time spent at the casino. Jean was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of 57 years, Ken; daughters, Kim (Ignacio) Cantu, Kendra (Murray) Murphy, and Kelli (Alan) Parker; grandchildren, Heather Taylor, Amee (Nick) Taylor and Mindee Murphy; great-grandchild, Reese Taylor; and brother, James (Pat) Thomas. Her funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, in DeWitt, with Rev. Martin DeBow of Asbury United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bath immediately following the service. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
