Kay Ann (Powers) Black, 84, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, at Gunnisonville Meadows Senior Assisted Living in Lansing, MI. Born on March 1, 1939, in Saginaw, MI, she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Kay spent her formative years in Ithaca, MI, and graduated from Mason High School. Her career led her to the Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, where she dedicated herself until her retirement in January 1990. She was a resident of Mason, Wacousta, Williamston, East Lansing, and Lansing, weaving the tapestry of her life across these communities. On October 15, 1986, she married the love of her life, John Richard Black.
Kay had a zest for life and enjoyed a variety of hobbies. From traveling to Alaska, California, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Branson, and Florida, to playing cards, bingo, and collecting antique dishes, Kay's interests were as diverse as her spirit. She was an avid fan of MSU and LCC basketball, Detroit Tiger baseball, and any sport her grandchildren participated in, be it gymnastics, soccer, basketball, or baseball.
She is survived by her loving children, Tamera (Keith) Scott of Texas and Jenna (Jim) Patterson of Lansing; grandchildren, Kenneth (LaRay) Westervelt of Colorado, Andrew (Jenna) Westervelt of Virginia, Kristin (Nate) Lilly of Lansing, and Devin (Ashia) Nault of Haslett; great-grandchildren, Greyson, Scarlett, and Lexington; brothers, Randy (Linda) Powers of Dewitt and Jim (Sue) Powers of Lansing; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Black, in June 2019 and her mother, Mildred Arvell Dibble, in March 2023.
A visitation for Kay will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E Washington, DeWitt, MI 48820, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Memorial contributions in Kay’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, American Diabetes Association, and Hospice of Lansing.
