She was born Jan. 19, 1924, the daughter of Harold Bayn and Nellie Sutton. She married Russell Harold Raymer on April 1, 1943, while he was home on leave during his service in the Navy during World War II. Together, they raised five boys, ran a restaurant and made a lifetime of memories. They made their home in many places including Battle Creek, Springport, Dimondale, Ohio, DeWitt and Lansing. She went by “Ma” to all her boys. She was a devotedly religious woman and also most likely to be the only one to tell you you’d gained a little too much weight. She had a closet full of toys for her grandkids. And, she had the best potato salad known to the universe. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell, son Phil and daughter-in-law Nancy. She is survived by her sons Russell (Connie), John (Teresa), Ralph (Valerie), and Mark (Valerie); daughter-in-law Nancy Raymer; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings; and church family. She lived for the past seven years in Hazel Finely Country Manor, where she was treated with love and dignity as the effect of Alzheimer’s disease took over her brain and body. The family would like to thank them and hospice for the care they delivered. Per their request, a joint funeral service for Wilma and Russell Raymer will be 10 a.m. Aug. 24, 2015, at Wayside Chapel Ministries, 518 N. College Road, Mason, with a luncheon to follow. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.grdewitt.com
