A retired deputy with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, she died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Sunrise Hospital, Las Vegas. She was 87, a resident of Gonzales and a native of Donaldsonville. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Donaldsonville, on Saturday, Jan. 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church, Donaldsonville, at noon. She is survived by a brother, Larry Montero, Las Vegas; two daughters, Jean Bullock, Virginia Beach, Va., and Patricia Herig and husband Dave Dial, Las Vegas; two sons, Ralph D. and wife Diann Herig, Baton Rouge, and Alan Herig, Midland, Texas; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph B. Herig; son, Ralph Burton Herig Jr.; parents, Joseph and Louise Mariette Montero; two sisters, Josie Acosta and Fay Montero; and six brothers, Odell, Andrew, Raymond, Sam, Jimmy and Hannon Montero.
