Lena Marcello Shaheen passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at the age of 92. Born July 9, 1928, Lena was a native and resident of Donaldsonville, La. She lived her entire life in the same home which was built by her father and uncles. Lena was a devout Catholic who attended Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church where she selflessly volunteered her time in various ministries until just recently. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. Lena’s life was rich with family and friends. She especially loved her family and looked forward to everyone coming home for Sunday lunch of pasta and kibbee. She is survived by her four children: Karen and Bernie Mistretta, Glenn and Glenda Shaheen, Susan and Chris Albus, James and Mona Shaheen. 6 grandchildren: Aleaha Morgan (Craig Beaman), Mathew Shaheen (Kristie), Daniel Shaheen, Brian Albus (Baylie), David Albus and Lauren Thomas (Paul). She was blessed with 13 great grandchildren: Brayden and Brylee Morgan, Karsyn, Kamryn, Kamille Shaheen, Rhett Shaheen and her newest great grandchild, Oliver Isaac Albus born this month. Step Great-Grandchildren: Ladon Ragusa, Liam Whitley, Evander and Ekko Lantz and Avery & Eva Jarreau. She is also survived by her Sister in Law’s Della Marcello and Janice Marcello along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Isaac “Zookie” Shaheen; parents, Anthony and Pauline Profito Marcello, brothers Mike, Vic and Frank Marcello. Sister-in-law Juan Deleo Marcello. A memorial will be held at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 1 p.m. until Mass of Christian burial at 2:00 p.m. Entombment in the Ascension Catholic Cemetery alongside her loving husband. The family expresses gratitude to Amedysis Hospice, Beth Bourgeois, Tabitha and DeEtte for their caring during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church. Due to COVID-19, the family has requested that anyone who attends please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
