

Grace Buma was 73 when she passed on into God's presence on Thursday, February 5, 2015 in Lakewood, CA. Grace was born in Gees, the Netherlands on March 13, 1941 to Willem & Egbertje Bouwman. The family of six children immigrated to the United States in 1952. After a short stay in Missouri, they moved to Southern California. Grace attended schools in the Bellflower area and graduated from Bellflower Christian High School in 1959. She married Donald Buma in 1963. They have a son, William, and a daughter, Nicole. They have lived in Lakewood for over 50 years.
After high school, she worked at a jewelry store on Bellflower Blvd. and then at the bank. She also did house and office cleaning and daycare throughout her homemaking years. She retired at 70.
Grace was involved with many Church ministries and activities at Bethel RCA and Bethany CRC including Salem, Pioneer Girls, Children's Sunday School, GEMS, VBS and Craft Class. She enjoyed camping at the River with the River Gang, RVing with the SOS Bunch, and being in a bowling league. Most of all she loved family. She made certain we would gather often. She loved talking about her childhood home and family in the Netherlands.
Grace is survived by her husband, Don Buma; son Bill (Tami Bunnett) of Norwalk; daughter Nicole (Norm) Bakker of Bellflower; stepsons Don (Cindy) of Buena Park; Jim of Buena Park; grandsons Allen (Tiffany) Buma, Matthew Bunnett and Dean Bakker; granddaughters Joell Buma, Ashlynn and Heather Buma; great-grandson Ramzie and great-granddaughter Symphonie. She is also survived by sisters Anne (Bert) Van Dyk, Lena (Merlin) Vander Tuig, Ali (Dick) Joustra, Yvonne (Jim) Te Velde; sisters-in-law Etta (Jim) Gibbard and Jo (Dick) Weister; brothers Bill (Alverna), Al (Linda), and Hank Bouwman; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by parents, step mom Tjettje; sisters Tina George, Albertha Arias; brothers-in-law Art Buma and Roy Siegersma; nieces Carolyn Arias and Jenny (Bouwman) Gonzalez; and nephew David Bouwman.
Grace was loved dearly and will be missed by her own family, her child-care family, multitude of Christian friends and all who knew her.
