With great sadness , the family of Chris Hamilton announces her peaceful death at home from cancer on 20 May, 2026. She was born in Bristol, England in 1946, trained as a nurse and midwife then married and emigrated to Canada in 1971. She raised five children with her husband Con then returned to the work she loved as a labour and delivery nurse at St Joseph's and McMaster in Hamilton. She amassed a wealth in her five children; Kate (Gerard), Chris (Tara), Cirvan (Elise), Conn (Mel), Claire (Dan) and a larger fortune in her grandchildren Noel, Will, Niambh, Ben, Brendan, Carys, Kaslo, Sadie, Esmé, Quinn, Jude, Jacob, Olivia, Gwen, and Matt. They were all her greatest joy and the love was returned.
She and Con raised five Newfoundland dogs named Caleb, countless cats and assorted other pets as well as their children. They enjoyed a love of Paris and travelling, mostly in Europe, over the last thirty years-often with their sister-in-law Vivienne.
The Newman society at McMaster was the foundation of their social life here, expanded by making lasting friendships with their work colleagues and others.
Reading, knitting gloves by the dozen, baking, Catholic church life, collecting towels, gardening, sailing, Prosecco, early canoe rides on Lake Cecebe- a full and inspiring life and, as she would say, a very lucky one.
Warm thanks are due to Doctors Juergens, Shaw, Okawara, Finley, West and Prangley, along with her nurse Deirdre.
She leaves her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings John, Mary, Anne, and Kay and her last Caleb. A loving wife and mother, moved on but not gone.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Canadian Martyrs Church at 3:30pm Wednesday May 27 2026 followed by a reception at Marlatt Funeral Home, 195 King Street West, Dundas.
