Passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in his 86th year. Predeceased by wife Mildred Patricia (Pat) Walton. Cherished father to Amy Walton (Mike), Phillip Walton (Dhakshi), Ian Walton (Beth Anne) and Carol Holguin (Jerry). Loving grandfather to Ben Holguin, Emily Holguin, Sophie Walton and Miette Walton. Survived by sister-in-law Peggy Sweet, two nieces and one nephew. Derek will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Professor of physics at McMaster University for over 40 years he was an avid sports man, traveler, a deep lover of culture and curious about all things.
