Gil was born in Johnstone, Scotland to Alfred and Margaret Green and grew up in Elderslie, Scotland where he attended the John Neilson Institute. Gil started working at an early age and proudly worked at Rolls Royce prior to emigrating to Canada in 1966 where he continued his work as an accountant at Mack Trucks. Gil built a career in manufacturing eventually retiring as the CFO of a metal manufacturing operation in 2006. He spent his retirement focusing on his family and his second great love, dogs.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Isabel (née Girvan), his brother Jack and sister Ruth. He was a loving father to James (Sue), Ruth, Donald (Megan) and a cherished grandfather to Sian (Wes), Regan, Shannen, Thomas (Caileigh), Ryan, Will and Emmet, and proud great-grandfather to Isla, Hudson, Winnie and Sloane.
Gil was a kind and gentle soul. He was a masterful storyteller and had a great sense of humour. He enjoyed poetry and could recite poems from his childhood. Anyone, that was in Gil’s company remembers him as a wonderful conversationalist and listener. He put people first and had a sense of wit that made every interaction with him fun and memorable. The family would like to extend our gratitude to the nurses, PSW’s and administrators at Emmanuel House. Your care and compassion made dad’s last few weeks with us easier to bear and comforted us all greatly.
Visitation will be held at Marlatt Funeral Home, 195 King St West, Dundas on Tuesday October 20th between 6:00-8:00 pm. A service will be held on Wednesday Oct 21st at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Emmanuel House Hospice, through the Good Shepherd Centres.
