Wesley passed away peacefully at 4:50 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Hamilton General Hospital with wife, Patricia, and family by his side. Thank you to the amazing surgical team at HGH who made Wes' last days so peaceful and gave us a last chance to say goodbye.
Wesley was born in Hamilton, Ontario, to Dr. T. Wesley Nash and Elva Nash (Gorman), and he has one sister, Garee Nash.
Wesley is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife, and best friend, Patricia, and his many children and grandchildren whom he adored. Wes's children are, W. Scott Nash (Maureen O'Malley), Barry Nash, J. David Nash, Alison Nash, Kimberly Whaley, and Kelly Senike (Tony Senike). His grandchildren are David W. Nash, Jenna Nash, Samantha Whaley, and Kaelin Senike. Wes also leaves behind many dear friends, including Ken, Keith, Nancy, Ernie, Lorna, Paddy, and Peter.
Wesley graduated from the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Medicine in 1967. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto in 1972, before moving to Hamilton, Ontario to set up his medical and surgical eye practice. He was an anchor of the Hamilton ophthalmology community for many years, serving as both a very busy clinician and a mentor to many residents in training—roles for which he was honoured. Wes retired in 2013, after more than 40 years of dedicated service to his community.
Wesley had many other interests (water skiing, tennis, squash, golf, downhill skiing, reading, photography), but family and medicine were always his central focus. He lived a life of positivity and enthusiasm; he was funny, clever, humble, generous, and kind to the core.
He was so loved and adored by his family and friends that it is hard to imagine a world without him, but his love for us will live on in every corner of our hearts forever. Wes would not want us to be sad, or to fuss over him, but because he was Wes, of course that is not possible.
Wesley, may you rest in peace until we meet again. We love you.
Visitation for friends, family, colleagues of Wes will take place at Marlatt Funeral Home, Swackhamer Chapel, 195 King Street West Dundas, ON L9H 1V5 on Saturday September 12, 2026, between the hours of 12-3 pm. We ask that you make a donation to Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation or CNIB in lieu of flowers
