Richard L. Carmel, 89, of Marlborough, beloved husband of Frances (Gugliotta) Carmel, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Marlborough Health Care Center. He was born October 27, 1929 in Quebec, Canada, the son of the late Ovide Carmel and Marie (LaFleche) Carmel. Sadly, he was predeceased by his baby brother, John “Harry” Carmel. Besides his loving wife, Frances, he is survived by his daughters, Laurie Wasel and her husband Scott; Tina Hynes and her husband Stephen. He also leaves behind two beautiful granddaughters, Ashley and Emily Wasel; sister, Claire Redin; brother, Francis Carmel and his wife Rosalie; sister, Jean Zuccala; sister, Sylvia Redin; sister-in-law, Nancy Carmel and many treasured nieces and nephews. Richard served in the U.S. Army and loved his country. He retired from the Town of Marlborough, but still remained active helping friends and family with any odd job and snow plowing. He was an animal lover who treasured moments sitting out on his glass sun porch seeing wild turkey, foxes, rabbits, and hummingbirds in his back yard. He also enjoyed music and playing bingo. Richard had a big heart and cared more about the wellbeing of others, than his own. His family is grateful for the loving care provided to him by the staff at Marlborough Health Care Center. Special thanks to: Ameka, Patrick, Ed, Rose, Alicia, Brittany, Kenny, Laura, Maxine, Yannie, Darlene and Pauline. Richard’s salute, laugh, and kindness will be missed by all that knew him.
Calling hours will be Saturday, September 28, from 9-10:30 a.m. concluding with a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow in Jones Hollow Cemetery, Marlborough. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be directed to the ASPCA.org, phone number 800-628-0028.
