Barbara (Matthews) Gilmore

Barbara (Matthews) Gilmore, 70, of East Hartford, loving wife of 39 years of Steven M. Gilmore, peacefully entered into eternal rest at her home with her devoted husband by her side on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. Born in Portland, ME on March 12, 1946, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Irene (Jennings) Matthews, she had resided in the Greater Hartford area for most of her life. She was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, Class of 1964. Prior to her retirement in 2004, she was employed for 30 years by the Metropolitan District Commission in Hartford as an Accounts Receivable Clerk. Barbara loved collecting “Collectible Dolls” and was an animal and bird lover. She also enjoyed gardening in her flower gardens, scrapbooking, and shopping. Most of all, Barbara was a dedicated wife, mother, and a very proud grandmother who cherished her time with her grandsons.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband Steven; two daughters, Dawn E. Konrad and her husband Rod of East Hartford, Lisa A. Gilmore of East Hartford; two adored grandsons, Tyler Clark of Bolton and Owen Konrad of East Hartford. She also leaves a sister, Joanie Aiken and her husband Robert of Simsbury; several nieces, nephews, former co-workers, and many dear friends.

Funeral service will be Saturday (November 19, 2016) at 10:30 am at the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to a favorite charity of the donor’s choice.
