

Carey E. Mace, 64, of East Hartford, loving husband of 27 years of Jacqueline “Jackie” (Repoli) Mace, unexpectedly journeyed home after a brief illness on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 with his caring family by his side at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Hartford on May 21, 1960, a son of the late Carey E. and Barbara (Griffin) Mace, he was a resident of Manchester for many years prior to moving to East Hartford 25 years ago. Carey was a graduate of Manchester High School, class of 1978 and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Carey was employed by the town of East Hartford Board of Education as a Custodian for over the past 25 years, and was a member and the current president of the AFSCME Local #1933 in East Hartford.
Carey was an avid loyal fan of the New England Patriots and the NFL, along with being an intense player of Fantasy Football leagues right up to the time of his death. He also was an animal lover, especially of his two dogs, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and traveling with his wife, up until his health prevented him to continue.
Besides his beloved wife Jackie, Carey is survived by five sons, Christopher Mace and his wife Danielle of Walpole, MA, Nicholas Mace and his wife Yue of Watertown, MA, Tyler Repoli and his wife Sara of Cartersville, GA, Benjamin Mace of Manchester, Owen Mace of East Hartford; one daughter, Mackenzie Mace and her husband Changhun Lee of Manchester; and six adored grandchildren, Colston, Maverick, Hayden, Aria, Olivia, and Emmelia. He also leaves three brothers, John Mace and his wife Ginette of Laconia, NH, Patrick Mace and his wife Tammy of South Newfane, VT, Michael Mace of Myrtle Beach, SC; two sisters, Linda Yorgensen and her husband Bob of West Hartford, Nancy Sylvester and her husband Jon of Niantic; a brother-in-law, Bernard Repoli and his wife Sandi of Wethersfield; two sisters-in-law, Caramia Pidgeon and her husband Arthur of Hebron, Kelly Hirth and her husband Raymond of Pennsylvania; his lifelong best friend, Brian Welsh of Glastonbury; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, and dear friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday (November 2, 2024) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with military honors outside the cathedral at the conclusion of the mass. The family ask that all attendees please go directly to the cathedral on Saturday morning. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Carey’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday (November 1, 2024) from 3:30 – 7:00 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford.
