

Carmen E. (Rowland) Root, 83, of Glastonbury, loving wife of the late Perry 'Don' Root, peacefully journeyed home to join her husband and others on Wednesday (June 4, 2008), at Hartford Hospital. Born on May 9, 1925 in Covington, TN, a daughter of the late Leslie and Alma (Nason) Rowland, she had resided in East Hartford for 47 years prior to moving to Glastonbury over one year ago. Carmen was proud of the family business and assisted her late husband at Root's Service Station, Main Street, Glastonbury for many years in many capacities. Carmen was a long-time member and past treasurer at the former Hockanum United Methodist Church, East Hartford. When she had time, Carmen would enjoy crocheting, reading, and duckpin bowling, as she participated in many local leagues throughout the years. Along with her beloved husband and parents, Carmen was predeceased by a brother, Floyd Rowland, and a sister, Jane Curttright. Carmen is survived by three daughters, Barbara Clapper and her husband, Ron, of El Paso, TX, Patricia R. Nichols of Marlborough, and Linda Hemingway of East Hartford; three brothers, Casper Rowland and Barrett Rowland both in Tennessee, and Herbert Rowland in Arkansas; five devoted grandchildren, Michael, Donna, Roger, Doreen, and Candi; four special great-grandchildren, Tavish, Taryn, Jacob, and Rachel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Saturday June 7 at 12 Noon at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial will be at Hockanum Cemetery, Main Street, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Saturday morning from 11-12 Noon. Memorial contributions in Carmen's memory may be made to a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
