Obituary of Catherine Esther Doyle
Catherine "Esther" (Davy) Doyle, 88, died peacefully at her home in East Hartford on Tuesday January 18, 2022 with her family beside her. She was born on April 15, 1933 the youngest of three children to Patrick Davy and Kate (Mullen) Davy in Edenderry Co. Offaly, Ireland. As a young woman, Esther left Ireland and began her training for her career in Nursing at Whipps Cross Hospital in London. Upon completion of her studies, Esther was awarded the title of Registered Nurse in April of 1958 after which time she went on to work in Obstetrics and as a Midwife at Central Middlesex Hospital in London until April, 1964. Later that year Esther made her journey to the United States, settling in Hartford, Connecticut and beginning her work at the Institute of Living where she completed her U.S. required clinical hours in Psychiatric Nursing. Upon completion of this, she became a licensed RN here in the U.S. and went on to work at St. Francis Hospital for a number of years. In June of 1966, Esther met and married her husband of 46 years Joseph Doyle, whom she lost in 2012. She proudly attained her US Citizenship in May of 1972. A devout Catholic, Esther was a communicant of St. Rose Church, where she at one time was a part of the Ladies Guild. She was a quiet unassuming woman who made caring for her family with love and generosity her priority throughout her years. Esther was a devoted and loving mother to their combined total of five children and will be sadly missed by all of them. Esther is predeceased by her husband Joseph Doyle, daughter Mary Donna Purcell, grandson Brian Doyle, and brother William Davy. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Doyle of East Hartford; along with three sons, Michael Doyle and Muguette of Florida, Paul Gregory Doyle and Janice of East Hartford, and Gerard Doyle and Holly of East Hartford. In addition to her children, Esther also leaves seven grandchildren, Shari, Steven, Paul, Jason, Jeffrey, Ryan, and Carleigh; as well as ten great grandchildren, Adam, Jacob, Jayleeane, Brian, Brithney, Meghan, Kalie, Tegan, Owen and Ian. Esther is also survived by her sister, Nancy Davy of Dublin, Ireland; and her nephew Patrick Davy and niece Sheila Furey also of Ireland. Per her wishes, visitation will be private. Her funeral service will be Saturday, January 22, 2022 with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Rose Church, 33 Church Street, East Hartford. Burial will follow immediately at St. Mary's Cemetery, (Section R-1), Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Saturday morning and to wear facemasks. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Esther’s name may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
