The son of the late Clifford Louis Symington, M.D. and Marian Vibert Symington, and the younger brother of the late Catharine Walsh, Cliff was born on February 12, 1938 in Springfield, MA. He attended Kingswood Oxford, graduated from Monson Academy, and attended the University of Vermont. Prior to his retirement, Cliff was the Senior Vice President & Chief Loan Officer at First Federal Savings and Loan Association of East Hartford, where he worked for 38 years. He was also an active member in the East Hartford Lions Club, with honors including the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, their highest form of recognition, which identifies an individual who displays exemplary service to his club and community. He also received the Knight of the Blind Award, and was bestowed the Ambassador of Sight recognition for continued acts of generosity, compassion and concern for others. Cliff also served as a proud member of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Cliff loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending any time possible with family and friends at his family’s home in Blandford, MA. He also loved each of his four faithful dogs that admired him endlessly. He enjoyed reading, learning, listening, and supporting others. Most of all he adored his family, and his lasting influence can’t be defined with words alone. He was respected, revered, and a role model for anyone fortunate enough to spend even a short period of time with him. He will be sorely missed.
In addition to his childhood sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Cliff is survived by his daughter, Catharine Symington-Marek of Broad Brook; and his three adoring grandchildren who were the light of his life, Victoria Bernier and her husband Scott Bernier of West Hartford, Sarah Marek and Catharine Marek both of Manchester, as well as his loyal nephew, John Walsh of Blandford, MA.
