

Evelyn E. (Wittner) Ghagan, 82, of East Hartford, loving wife for over 61 years to John ""Jack"" F. Ghagan, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, (June 1, 2011) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born in Glastonbury on January 14, 1929, a daughter of the late Frank A. and Agnes (Crossen) Wittner, she had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. Evelyn was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1946 and worked with her father at Wittner's Garage, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford. She later became a secretary and was employed by several area companies which included Hoffman Electric in East Hartford, Travelers Insurance Company, Hartford, and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford. Evelyn was a long-time member of the East Hartford Women's Club and liked making ceramics and hammered copper. She also enjoyed crafting (especially knitting and crocheting), bird watching, solving crossword puzzles, and collecting various salt & pepper shakers. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Anne Skowronski of California, and Lee Begin of Florida. Along with her beloved husband, Jack, Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Kathleen E. Pagano and her husband, Michael, of East Hartford, and Stacy A. Krechko of East Hartford with whom she made her home; and a special grandson, Jacob E. Krechko of East Hartford. She also leaves two sisters, Elizabeth Vozzo of South Windsor and Frances Anne Krechko of Tolland; a sister-in-law, Betty Anne Ghagan of East Hartford; several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday (June 7th) at 9:45 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Cambridge Drive, East Hartford. Relatives and friends are welcome to join Evelyn's family on Monday (June 6th) from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
