Florence (Wheelock) Johnson, 86, of East Hartford, beloved wife of the late Herbert James Johnson, passed away peacefully on Friday November 12, 2021 with her family by her side. Born in Calais, Maine on November 9, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Arthur V. and Florence (Pomeroy) Wheelock. Florence graduated from Calais High School and then married the love of her life, Herbie and moved to East Hartford, Connecticut where she was a stay at home Mom of three daughters and always put her family first. As her daughters grew up she worked at Seaparks Department Store as a cashier/clerk, retiring after 10 years. Florence was a wonderful baker. She was a 50 year Jubilee member of First Congregational Church in East Hartford. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics, as well as the UConn Huskies.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Florence will be forever missed by her three daughters, Rhonda Sparks and her husband Thomas of Virginia Beach, VA, Sandra Francoeur and her husband Donald of Columbia and Linda Kurmaskie and her husband James of East Hartford; three adored grandchildren, Aubrey Simmons and her husband Andrew, TJ Sparks and his wife Kimberly and Matt Francoeur and his wife Heather and six cherished great grandchildren, Logan, James, Charlotte, Ryan, Jack and Eliza. She is also survived by her siblings, Janet Haley and Paul Wheelock, both of Maine, as well as in-laws, James Pike and Marcia Wheelock, many dear nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Gary Wheelock and two sisters, Helen Pike and Evelyn Goodine. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Marlborough Health & Rehabilitation Center for the care and compassion shown to Florence during her time there.
