

Joan M. (Donihee) Hodder, 85, of Glastonbury and formerly of East Hartford, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at her home. Joan was the loving wife of 43 years of the late Robert D. Hodder. Born in Cornwall, province of Ontario, Canada on August 13, 1931, a daughter of the late Henry and Elmira (Cramer) Donihee, she had resided in East Hartford for many years prior to moving to Glastonbury eleven years ago. Joan was a proud home maker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved shopping at thrift stores, tag sales, and solving cross-word puzzles. She was also an avid loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox. Joan is survived by three daughters, Denise A. Sylvestre and her husband, Michael, of Glastonbury, Diane B. Gompper of East Hartford, Donna L. Lavado and her husband, John, of Glastonbury; a son, James R. Hodder and his wife, Debbie, of East Hartford; two special grandchildren, Renee Biggins and her husband, John, of Berlin, Robert Gompper of Vernon; four cherished great-grandchildren, Kirstie Daley of Manchester, Morgan Daley of Middletown, Nathan Daley of Manchester, Joshua Jenkins Derosier of Manchester; one adored great-great grandson, Kaiden Shakir of Manchester. She also leaves three sisters, Jean Ann Delton of East Hartland, Jane Simienski of Ellington, Grace Wrana of North Windham; a brother, Gary Donihee and his wife, Pierette ""Pete"", of Windsor Locks; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Along with her beloved husband and parents, Joan was predeceased by a granddaughter, Laura Daley of Manchester; two brothers, Patrick Donihee of Windsor Locks and Jack Donihee of Enfield; and a sister, Sally McMahon of Willimantic. Funeral service will be Saturday (January 7th) at 11 am at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. Joan's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday (January 6th) from 4-7 pm at the funeral home chapel.
