

John A. Donofrio, 90, of East Hartford, loving husband of the late Frances L. (Miceli) Donofrio, passed away at his home on Monday, August 10, 2015 with his caring family by his side. Born in East Hartford on April 25, 1925, a son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Chicano) Donofrio, he had been a life-long resident of East Hartford. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement he was employed for 30 years by the former Roskins Distributors, Park Avenue, East Hartford and later worked for over 10 years at General Electric Warehouse, East Windsor. John was a former long-time member of the Knights of Columbus-Council #3901, East Hartford. He was an avid gardener who would spend hours tending to his crops (especially tomatoes) and also loved visiting the casinos.
John is survived by his daughter, Diane Donofrio-Sartori of Manchester; three sons, John Donofrio, Jr. and his wife, Tracy, of Colchester, Richard Donofrio of Manchester, Anthony Donofrio and his significant other, Kelly Thurston, of Manchester; two grandchildren, Anthony Donofrio, Jr. and Catherine Donofrio both of Manchester. He also leaves two brothers, Adolph Donofrio and his wife, Dolores, of East Hartford, Thomas Donofrio of East Hartford; two sisters, Dolores Gaudette of East Hartford, Mafalda Tabert of South Windsor; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his wife and parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Angelo Donofrio and Richard Donofrio; four sisters, Celia Stevens, Arline Katzer, Mary Wall, and Alvera Harwood.
Funeral service will be Saturday (August 15th) at 9 am from the D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, Main Street/Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Veteran’s Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Friday (August 14th) from 4-7 pm.
