John was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and was son to the late Frank and Rosalia (Ptak) Jakacky.
He was a disabled veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked as an HVAC mechanic and property manager for many years until his retirement in 1997.
John was a devoted husband and father who encouraged his children and grandchildren to cultivate and follow their interests. As an accomplished tradesman, he could fix or build anything he could imagine and gladly passed his extensive knowledge on to others. He enjoyed traveling the world with Ada and family and could often be found at his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, photography and most of all, “watching” TV while napping in his favorite recliner. He will be remembered most for his witty quips and sayings as well as his animated story-telling.
John is survived and will be dearly missed by his children John M. Jakacky Jr. and wife Mary Lamphere of Oakdale, Linda Groman of East Hartford and Joseph A. Jakacky of Hebron; grandchildren Oliver A. Groman III and wife Danielle of Levittown, PA, Colin and Owen Jakacky of Hebron; great-grandchild Ryan Groman of Levittown, PA; brother-in-law Lindy E. Regaioli of East Hartford; many nieces and nephews.
John was also predeceased by his siblings Frank Jakacky, Laura Butterworth, Anthony Jakacky, Helen Gigliotti, all of Pittsfield, MA and William F. Jakacky of Howland, ME.
At John’s request, all services were private. The D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, East Hartford was entrusted with his care. For tributes or condolences, please visit www.desopoeh.com.
