

John Patrick “Jack” McManus, 87, of East Hartford, loving husband of over 64 years of Martha (Longo) McManus, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at his home. Born in North Attleboro, MA on June 8, 1937, a son of the late Joseph and Mable (Murphy) McManus, he had been a resident of East Hartford since 1948. John was a graduate of East Hartford High School, class of 1955 and a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps after the Korean War.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years by Gerber Scientific Instruments in Vernon as a Contracts Administrator. A devout catholic, John was a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and St. Christopher Church both in East Hartford. He was an avid golfer who also enjoyed dining out at area restaurants and visiting the casinos. He always looked forward to his morning coffee with his friends at Augie & Rays Restaurant in East Hartford where he called it the “center of the universe”. John was a very simple man who enjoyed his home and working outside in his yard. Most of all, John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his time with his entire family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife Martha, John is survived by a daughter, Donna L. Mauri and her husband Frank of Windsor; two sons, Michael J. McManus and his partner, Sue Wyman, of South Glastonbury, Kenneth J. McManus of Mooresville, NC; six special grandchildren, Frank Mauri and his wife Linda of South Windsor, Anthony Mauri and his Fiancée Haewon Foley of Newark, CA, Matthew McManus and his wife Christina of Columbia, Megan McManus of Savanah, GA, Samantha McManus of Mooresville, NC, Nicolle McManus of Mooresville, NC; three adored great-grandchildren, Frankie Xuan Mauri, Maddalena Marie McManus, Gianna Capri Robinson; a brother-in-law, Robert A. Longo and his wife Joy of Manchester; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph McManus and Alan McManus; a sister, Donna Mitchell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Lucy (Cartelli) Longo; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Corinne Longo.
Funeral service will be Saturday (November 9, 2024) with a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Christopher Church of North American Martyrs Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Veteran’s Memorial Field at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. John’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday morning from 9:30 am – 10:30 am at St. Christopher Church.
