

Joe was born on January 22, 1935, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and was the son of the late Arthur and Eva (Perron) St. Germain. After graduating from high school, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He later married his beloved wife, Hazel (Teft) St. Germain, of 46 years and together they settled in East Hartford, where they raised their family.
Prior to his retirement, Joe was a dedicated welder at Pratt & Whitney for 45 years. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in caring for his yard and flower garden. Joe was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Green Bay Packers. An athlete himself, he enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball and was known for his speed on the field. He was also a talented ten-pin bowler, earning numerous awards and achieving several perfect “300” games. Joe participated in many local leagues, especially at Silver Lane Bowling Alley in East Hartford.
Most of all, Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend.
Joe is survived by his loving children: Joseph M. St. Germain Jr. and his wife, Paula, of Manchester; Mark St. Germain and his wife, Heidi, of Germany; Richard D. St. Germain and his wife, Kendall, of East Hartford; and Debra Diaz of East Hartford; his 8 loving grandchildren; and his 14 adored great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Pauline Poirier of Rhode Island, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, Joe was predeceased by his two sisters, Terry Marquis and Rita Reyna, and his brother, Sonny St. Germain.
A funeral service to honor Joe’s life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 12 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 11 am – 12 pm at the funeral home chapel.
