Kevin Ernest Hutt, 57, of East Hartford, passed into eternal life on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Born in Hartford on September 21, 1967, he was the son of Ernest John Hutt and the late Karen (Varsell) Stager. Kevin was a lifelong resident of the East Hartford area. He graduated from East Catholic High School in 1985, where he played baseball and was a standout on the boys’ ice hockey team that won the school’s first state championship in the sport. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Connecticut and later obtained a master’s degree in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
Kevin began his working career alongside his father at The Original Augie & Ray’s Drive-In on Main Street in East Hartford. After college, he spent over 20 years at Cigna Insurance Company in Bloomfield, where he served as an Assistant Vice President. Passionate about helping others, Kevin often volunteered at Bristol Memorial Hospital to share his personal journey. An accomplished runner, Kevin completed the Vermont 100-Mile Endurance Race in just over 24 hours. He was also a co-founder of the Traprock 50k Ultramarathon & 17k Trail Race with his friend Steve Nelson. His love for the outdoors extended to rock climbing and hiking, leading him to become a founding member of the Connecticut Climbers and Mountaineers.
A seasoned traveler, Kevin explored the United States, South America, and Europe. He remained a loyal UConn fan, avidly supporting the Huskies’ football, men’s ice hockey, and basketball teams. He especially cherished time spent golfing with his father, friends, and family.
Kevin is survived by his loving father, Ernest John Hutt and his step-mother Jean (Proctor) Hutt; his four devoted sisters, Kimberly E. Pines, Kristin M. Hutt, Kelly Hutt-Vater and her husband Craig Vater, and Lisa M. Hutt. He also leaves his adored nieces and nephews, Michael Ekstrom and his wife Sara, Seth Pines and his fiancée Christina, Gabrielle Pines and Samuel Pines, Chase Hanson and Cole Hanson, Kian, Chloe, Talia and Makayla Hutt-Vater, Brenna Hutt; two great nieces and a great-nephew, Ava, Michael, and Ana Ekstrom; a brother-in-law, Steven Pines; his long-time friend, Steffi Dunn; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday (February 22nd) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 am at St. Christopher Church of North American Martyrs Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Kevin’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday morning prior to the mass from 9:30 - 11 am in St. Christopher Church Hall. Kevin’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Kevin’s doctor of 30 years, Dr. Stephen Holzman, for his professionalism, integrity, and care given to Kevin during his journey.
