Prior to her retirement, Lena worked hard her entire life primarily as a machinist, at various jobs supporting her family. A devout Catholic, Lena was a faithful communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford attending Mass regularly, and when her health made it too difficult to attend she would always watch a daily Mass on television. Lena loved to dance and play cards at the French Club, as well as watching game shows on television (such as 'The Price is Right' and 'Deal or No Deal'). However, Lena's two greatest joys in life were being a proud grandmother in spending time with her family and grandchildren, as well as her love to garden, especially flowers where she would grow roses as big as one's fist.
