Maria Sousa (Andrade)

Maria (Andrade) Sousa, 88, of East Hartford, peacefully journeyed home on Wednesday, (June 22, 2011) at her home surrounded by her entire caring family. She was the loving wife of over 44 years to the late Antonio Sousa. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal on September 30, 1922, a daughter of the late Jose and Maria Andrade, she had been a resident of East Hartford since 1968. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford and the Holy Ghost Portuguese Society, East Hartford. A hard worker, Maria was a dedicated home maker who also retired from Connecticut Mutual Insurance Company, Hartford where she was employed part-time for over 30 years. She loved knitting, crocheting, cooking, and baking (especially her biscoitos) for family and friends to enjoy. Maria is survived by three sons, Joe Sousa and his wife, Tina, of East Hartford, Anthony Sousa and his wife, Maria, of Glastonbury, Manuel Sousa and his wife, Natalia, of Newington; two daughters, Beatriz Sousa and her husband, Antonio, of East Hartford, Constance Serpa and her husband, Joe, of South Windsor; a sister, Rosa Braga of East Hartford; three brothers, Jose Andrade and his wife, Virginia, of West Hartford, Joao Andrade and his wife, Maria, of Central Falls, RI, Victorino Andrade and his wife, Maria, of Palm Coast, FL; eight special grandchildren; five adored great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday (June 25th) at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane Street, Fatima Square, Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery (Section P), Burnside Avenue, East Hartford.
