

Maria L. (Andrade) Carvalho, 81, of East Hartford, loving wife of the late Joao Pacheco Carvalho, went to join her husband in eternal life on Friday (February 9, 2007) surrounded by her caring family at her home. Born in Santa Maria, Portugal, a daughter of the late Albino and Ana Isabel (Puim) Andrade, she had resided in East Hartford for the past 21 years. Prior to her retirement she was employed for many years as a housekeeper by both Aetna Insurance Company and the YMCA in Hartford. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford and an individual who liked crocheting, especially blankets for her family to enjoy. However, most of all, she enjoyed being a proud wife, mother, and grandmother. Besides her beloved husband of over 42 years, Maria was predeceased by a brother, Joao Puim in Portugal, a son-in-law, Manuel Carreiro of East Hartford, and a daughter-in-law, Judith Pacheco in Portugal. Maria is survived by her devoted children, Cecilia Carreiro of East Hartford with whom she made her home, Jose Manuel Pacheco in Portugal, Joao Pacheco and his wife, Maria, of Rocky Hill; two sisters, Helena Puim in Brazil, Laura Ines Puim in Portugal; six special grandchildren, Marco Pacheco and his wife, Suzy, in Portugal, Sandra Pacheco in Portugal, Eladio Carreiro of East Hartford, Michael Pacheco and his wife, Michelle, of Wethersfield, Elmer Carreiro and his wife, Christina, of Cromwell, Cindy Culp and her husband, Larry, of Rocky Hill; four adored great-grandchildren, Vanessa Pacheco, Morgan Pacheco, Matthew Pacheco, Destiny Culp; a special niece and nephew, Joao and Lena Freitas of Newington; several other nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 13 at 11 a.m. from the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 12 Noon at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 40 Fatima Square, Hartford. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
