

The daughter of Daniel Francis Colbert and Mary Theresa Salmon, she was born on June 8th, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband John M. Sydor, as well as her 3 older brothers; Jack, James and Daniel. Surviving her are daughters Alice Marie, Judith Ann (John), and her son, John Michael (Noreen). She leaves behind 9 grandchildren; Danielle, Alyse (Frank), Richard, Kristen (Steve), Kerry, Erin (Bryan), Michael, Danny, Cheryl (Neal); 23 great-grandchildren; Matthew (Stephanie), Melinda, Isaac (Braydey), Erica, Erin (Alex), Megan, Kye (Leah), Shea, Trace, McKay, Berkeley, Kara, Brian, Ferris Marie, Julian, Audrey, Dakota, Justin, Christian, Sophia, Amelia, Danny Jr., Vanessa and an astonishing 2 great-great- grandchildren Maisy and Sophie. She also leaves behind her loving dog, Baby. Along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mary Alice spent the majority of her years raising her family in Floral Park, NY before moving to East Hartford, CT in August of 2014. She worked at St. John's University as a secretary in the Department of Government and Politics for almost 30 years before retiring. She was also a devoted Catholic who loved serving with the Catholic Daughters and Rosary Altar Society at Our Lady of Victory in Floral Park, NY. She also volunteered at St. Christopher Church in East Hartford in her retirement years. She lived her last years with her granddaughter Danielle and great granddaughter Melinda, the former of who was also her primary caregiver.
Mary Alice lived life to its fullest and loved her family dearly. Her role as a grandmother brought her immense joy and she cherished every moment. When asked about the secret to the happiness of life, Mary Alice once answered, “To always smile, and never complain.” She was always smiling, and she was always so loved.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church of North American Martyrs Parish, 15 Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Mary Alice’s friends and relatives may call at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street East Hartford on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 4 pm – 6 pm. Burial will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 12 pm at St. Charles Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY 11735. We will meet directly at the gravesite. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary Alice’s name to Protectors of Animals, 144 Main St Unit O, East Hartford, CT 06118.
