Maryellen DeShaw

Maryellen (Webber) DeShaw, 51, of East Hartford and formerly of Woodstock, took her last ride as she unexpectedly journeyed Home to her Lord on Sunday, June 7, 2020. Born in Hartford on October 1, 1968, she was a daughter of James Frank and Yvonne (Butler) Webber of East Hartford. Maryellen graduated from Mercy Catholic High School in Middletown, Class of 1987.

Maryellen previously worked at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL where she was employed as a character figure which included: Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Grumpy of the Seven Dwarfs, and Chip of Chip & Dale. She was presently working as a Home Health Aide for Home Health Aides of Cromwell. A woman of strong faith, she was a former member of the Faith Bible Evangelical Free Church in Woodstock.

Maryellen loved animals, especially horses, and was a former Therapeutic Riding Instructor for horses in Charlton, MA. She also enjoyed working at several area farms and greenhouses in the Woodstock area. The Special Olympics were very dear to her heart, as Maryellen volunteered for many years as a coach for the Special Olympics, helping out and assisting so many athletes though the years. She was also involved and volunteered with Miss Amazing both here in Connecticut and nationally. Most of all, she was a devoted and caring mother, daughter, sister, wife, aunt, and friend.

Maryellen is survived by her husband, Jeffrey DeShaw of Woodstock; her three cherished daughters, Elizabeth Ann (DeShaw) Baez-Valdivieso and her husband, Roberto, of Willimantic, Hanna DeShaw of Woodstock, Mya Grace DeShaw of Putnam; her beloved parents, Jimmy and Yvonne Webber of East Hartford; her sister, Carisa Weaver and her husband, Andrew, of North Kingstown, RI and their son, Andrew Steven Weaver, II; one adored granddaughter, Raven Baez-Valdivieso of Willimantic; several dear aunts, uncles, special cousins, and friends.

Due to the current health crisis, private funeral service and burial at Elm Vale Cemetery in Woodstock will be by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Maryellen’s name may be made to the Special Olympics of Connecticut, 2666 State Street, Suite #1, Hamden, CT 06517. The D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements.
