Maureen (Egan) Leniart, 78 of East Hartford, passed away peacefully, June 11, 2025, at Hartford Hospital with family by her side. Vibrant and full of life, her passing has left all that knew her heartbroken and stunned.
Born in Waterbury on December 27, 1946, she is survived by her husband of 59 years, Walter Leniart, daughters Karen Leniart and Sheila LaMothe and son-in-law, Todd, granddaughters Samantha Leniart and Sydney, twin sister Mary Ruscz, brother-in-law Bob Ruscz, sister-in-law Nola Mohrman and husband, William, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends that make up her army of a beautiful family.
Maureen met her husband Walter on May 29, 1965, and since that day, he never left her side. Three and a half weeks later, they were already so in love they got engaged, and on February 19, 1966 they were married. Maureen and Walter built up everything they could to buy a house together in Rocky Hill before having first born Sheila on August 12, 1967. A year later they bought the house we know and love in East Hartford. On September 8, 1969, their daughter Karen was born, and their family was complete. The family love never stopped there, friends and neighbors all around viewed Maureen as a second mom. She is loved by all the Pendelton Drive neighborhood, and she always will be. On October 2, 2005, she started her journey as a grandmother to Samantha. She always loved time with her and would look forward to every day she could spend with her.
Maureen was a woman full of love, had many interests, and was never afraid to try something new. She loved cooking and baking, music, NASCAR, boating on the Connecticut River, waterskiing, fishing (often catching the most and biggest fish of the day), and many trips to Maine with family and friends. She was very involved in the school system serving on the PTA, including president, and assisted with the consolidation of Penney and East Hartford High Schools and the redesign of the school seal. She was heavily involved with the Antique Outboard Motor Club resulting in countless friendships. For many years she and Walter hosted a meet at their home where Maureen made a homecooked meal for all who attended, as many as 130 people.
No one can name how many people she loved; but if you knew Maureen, she loved you unconditionally. There is not one day where Maureen was not filled with love for something the day brought. Not only did she have so much to brighten her every day, she was the sunshine in everyone’s life, and she will shine bright in our memories forever.
