

Raymond S. Brown, 70, of East Hartford, loving husband of 46 years to Carol Anne (Podann) Brown, peacefully entered into eternal rest at his home on Tuesday, (June 15, 2010) with his caring wife and friends by his side. Born in Hartford on June 14, 1940, a son of the late Samuel and Marguerite (Battles) Brown, he had resided in East Hartford for the past 52 years. Ray was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1958 and a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve during the Vietnam Era. Ray was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Newington where he was a member of their property committee. Prior to his retirement, Ray was employed for 37 years by the J.M. Ney Company in Bloomfield. Ray was an avid gardener, (especially growing red roses and other flowers) but truly enjoyed cutting grass at his home and for several neighbors. He also loved to wash and wax his automobiles and was a long-time loyal fan of the New York Yankees. Along with his beloved wife, Carol, Raymond is survived by his twin daughters, Beth O'Brien and her husband, Richard, of Davie, FL, Susanne Turnbull and her husband, James, of Concord, CA; three adored grandchildren, Joseph Turnbull of Concord, CA, Chase O'Brien and Paige O'Brien both of Davie, FL. Ray also leaves an uncle, Raymond F. Brown and his wife, Karole, of Manchester; an aunt, Dorothy 'Betty' Broderick and her husband, John, of Wethersfield; a special dear neighbor and friend, Ruth Sheehan of East Hartford; and several cousins, friends, and former co-workers. Funeral services will be Monday, June 21, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Newington with Pastor Mary Robinson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Veteran's Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Raymond's memory may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1655 Main Street, Newington, CT 06111.
