Steven "Steve" Allen Hayes

Born on December 18, 1959, in Melbourne, he was the son of Jerry and Barbara (Harper) Hayes. He was a proud graduate of Satellite High School, Class of 1977.

While living in Florida, Steve worked at Kennedy Space Center as a solid rocket booster specialist. During his time there, he earned the prestigious Manned Flight Awareness Award. Dedicated to both his career and education, Steve also obtained his Master’s degree while working there full-time.

Steve and his beloved wife, Christine, later moved to East Hartford, CT, where they continued raising their family. He began a long and distinguished career as a tool design engineer at Pratt & Whitney, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring.

In his free time, Steve was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and boating. Above all else, he treasured time with his family. His greatest joy was being “Papa” to his grandchildren.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Christine Hayes of East Hartford; his six children: Brandi Waterman and her husband Michael of Florida, Danielle Hayes of East Hartford, Michael Hayes and his wife Ashley of East Hartford, Patrick Hayes of East Hartford, Edith Hayes of East Hartford, and Wyatt Hayes of East Hartford; and his eight grandchildren: Katelyn Hayes and her significant other Thomas Dean, Scott Hirsch, Jason Waterman, Robert Joseph Hayes, Lilliana Hayes, Alexander Hayes, Jonathan Hayes, and Jaxon Hayes.

He is also survived by his father, Jerry Allen Hayes and his wife Linda Sue Hayes; his sisters, Diane Hayes and her spouse Amy Indigo, and Becky Day; as well as his nieces and nephews, Amber, Alison, Ashley, Justin, Adam, and their families.

Steve was predeceased by his mother, Barbara Diane (Harper) Hayes, and his sister, Lisa Muncy.
