

Vincent John Mondo Jr., 84, of East Hartford, adored husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 with his family at his side. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Shirley (Railton) Mondo and their children, Christine Falce and her husband Peter of Broad Brook, Lisa Dethy of New Jersey, Margaret O'Neil and her husband Leo of Enfield, Vincent John Mondo, III and his wife Shelly of Marlborough, and Patricia Mondo of Glastonbury. He also leaves eight grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law who were the joy of his life: Ryan Dethy and his girlfriend Maria Cruz, Nicholas Falce and his wife Kristin, Zachary Falce, Rebecca, Olivia, Madeline and Isabelle Mondo, and Sarah O'Neil. Vincent proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart. After returning home he attended Hartford Art School where he met and fell in love with Shirley Railton. They were married on August 24, 1957 and looked like newlyweds until the day he died. He was an art teacher and football coach in Wethersfield for 25 years, as well as the aquatic supervisor for the town, after which he became the director of the Wethersfield Community Center. He retired in 1992 and became an active member of the Glastonbury American Legion Post #56. He was a longtime communicant of St. Christopher Church in East Hartford and passed his faith on to his children and grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the East Hartford Fire Department and the emergency room staff of Hartford Hospital for their care and support. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 25th with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 12:30 pm at St. Christopher Church, East Hartford. (Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Saturday afternoon.) Burial with military honors will follow at Veteran's Memorial Field #2 -Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the D'Esopo- East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Friday, October 24th from 4 - 7pm.
