

William E. McGowan, Jr., 95, of East Hartford, loving husband for over 67 years of Theresa (Rizzo) McGowan, entered into eternal life on Monday, (April 9, 2012). Born in Philadelphia, PA on November 29, 1916 a son of the late William E. and Magdalen (Hickey) McGowan, he had been a resident of East Hartford since 1956. William served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from SNET Co. after over 35 years of service. He was a member of The Telephone Pioneers, a former member of the VFW Post #2083 in East Hartford, and a former coach and past president of East Hartford Little League. William enjoyed bowling, golfing, watching golf on television, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and the UCONN basketball teams. Besides his wife Theresa, William is survived by his loving daughter Sandra M. Sequenzia and her husband Frank, of Southington, a son, William M. McGowan and his wife, Joan, of Southington; four adored grandchildren Kelly A. Bess and her husband Bryan of Lititz, PA, Frank L. Sequenzia of Sandy Hook, Adam McGowan of Boston, MA and Chase McGowan of Brooklyn, NY; four great-grandchildren TJ Sequenzia of St. Cloud, FL, and Matthew, Nathan and Melanie Bess all of Lititz, PA; and one great-great grandson Cayden James Sequenzia. He also leaves a brother-in-law Dominic Rizzo of Rocky Hill; three sisters-in-law Kitty DiScipio of Glastonbury, Angie Kluntz and her husband, Jack, of Sebastian, FL, and Marylou Roe of Anthem, AZ; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Jack McGowan and Robert McGowan; a sister, Marie Kinelski; and several in-laws.
Funeral services will be Friday (April 13) at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, corner of Main Street/Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Burnside Avenue, East Hartford.
