She was born on May 1, 1931, in El Paso, TX to Soledad and Jose Federico Rodriguez.
She attended Alta Vista Elementary and Austin Jr. High, then went on to Austin High School, where she excelled in academics and graduated third in her class. She was very athletic and played on the basketball and softball teams serving as captain on both.
She met the love of her life, Louis Lopez at a basketball game and married on September 10, 1950.
They spent their early married life in El Paso and started a family with four children, Sylvia,
Rick, Fernando and Delia.
A job opportunity took them to California for a few years, where they welcomed their fifth child, a son named Marco.
Homesick for El Paso and their extended family, they made the trip back to settle, once again, in their hometown.
Alicia was a stay at home mom until Marco started elementary school. She worked for Breese Air Conditioning, Harrison Office Supply and Baker Glass as a bookkeeper for many years until she retired and moved to Ruidoso with her husband. However, retirement in Ruidoso did not last long. She found she missed working and took a job with Culligan Water as a bookkeeper. She then went on to work for Casino Apache in Ruidoso.
A lifelong Democrat, she and Louis joined the Lincoln County Democratic Party where she served as Secretary and later as Treasurer.
She also enjoyed lectoring at St. Eleanor Catholic Church in Ruidoso.
Widowhood came too early for her and her grief led her to begin writing her thoughts and feelings, first about grief and later about a variety of topics that interested her. The El Paso Times ran her stories as a guest columnist for many years.
Her hobbies were reading, crossword puzzles and playing Words with Friends.
Alicia was a loving mother, who was devoted to her family. Her strong faith was instilled in each of her children.
She is survived by her 5 children, Sylvia (Armando), Rick (Debbie), Fernando, Delia (Jeffrey), Marco (Lara), sisters Soledad Rodarte and Loli Guzman and sister-in-law Helvia Martinez, as well as many nephews and nieces.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul, Vanessa, Christopher, Ryan, Joshua, Ashley and Brandon and by her great grandchildren, Joelle, Sebastian, Giovanna, Marelise, Ryder, Camden, Brody and Zeke.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Louie, her parents Jose Federico and Soledad Rodriguez and her sister Hortencia Trujillo.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Alicia’s caregivers Denise Mata and Dawn Milam for the loving care they gave Alicia during the last weeks of her life.
