Alicia lived much of her life in El Paso, as a wife and mother, but she was born in Navojo Sonora, Mexico on March 17,1938 to Martina Tortolero and Rodolfo Herrera. She was an active member in La Union Catolica de San Jose and belonged to the Memorial Senior Citizen Center.
Plain spoken and independent, she enjoyed the outdoors and gardening as well as participating in activities at the senior center. Alicia was also a fan of Mexican singer Juan Gabriel and enjoyed singing his songs at her home.
She is survived by her son Richard Solis (Sylvia Serrano) and stepson Rogelio Vicente Solis (Deborah Skipper Solis). She was blessed with three grandsons, Gus Garcia, Jacob Daniel Solis and Luis Vicente Solis, as well as a great-granddaughter Alianna Nevaya Garcia.
Visitation and rosary will be held at 6p.m., Tuesday, October 22nd, at Martin Funeral Home (Funeraria del Angel Central) at 3839 Montana Avenue in El Paso. The church mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 23rd, at Guardian Angel Church, 3021 Frutas Avenue., also in El Paso. Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery on 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
