

Avelardo Chavez went to be with the Lord as he passed away in his sleep on Sunday morning, November 3, 2013 in El Paso, Texas. He was born to Concepcion and Josefa Chavez on May 29, 1927 in Socorro, Texas. He was a father of 6 children whom he loved very much. He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Avelardo also loved coaching baseball and basketball, especially when his grandson Christopher Daniel Chavez was a member of the teams he was coaching. He was also a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Navy.
He was a civil service employee as a Director of Maintenance, from where he retired. He also worked for the Socorro ISD as a monitor at Montwood High School.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Concepcion and Josefa Chavez, his brothers, Luis, Nancianceno, Tony, Raul and Salvador Chavez, as well as two of his daughters, Laura and Rita Chavez and most recently his grandson, Christoper Daniel Chavez.
He is survived by his four remaining children, Avelardo A. (Junie) Chavez, Arleen Beard, Daniel Chavez and Reuben Chavez.
Visitation will be on Wednesday November 6th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home on Montana St., and the funeral mass will take place on Thursday, November 7th at 9:45 am at Santo Nino Church on Clark St., with graveside services immediately following at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Chavez, Michael Chavez, Herbert Beard, Philip Beard, Josuah Chavez and Reuben Chavez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Octavio Samaniego, Lorenzo Borrego and Jonathan Beard.
