

Billy Broadway, age 84, passed away on February 10, 2014 in El Paso, Texas. Billy was born in Laurel, Mississippi on June, 6 1929 to the late Ida and Kaley Broadway. He spent his youth in Oak Grove, Louisiana before volunteering for military service in 1948. Billy was a graduate of the University of Nebraska – Omaha and received a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Texas at El Paso. He proudly served our country as a highly decorated member – to include the Purple Heart and Commendation Medal - of the United States Army for 23 years where he served overseas tours in Korea and Vietnam. Billy played an integral role in overseeing air missile defense systems at Ft. Bliss as an active duty chief warrant officer 3. After active duty service, Billy managed various missile systems at Ft. Bliss for 9 years as a civilian. He will be remembered as a self-made man who loved fishing in Southern New Mexico, generously sponsored local families in need, and played an active role in arranging family outings.
Billy was assisted in his later years by Linda Weiler. He was very appreciative of her care and support.
Billy is survived by his loving spouse of 47 years, Aurora Broadway, his brothers Bobby and sister-in-law Opal, Joe and sister-in law Maxine, Sonny, and Mickey and sister-in-law Jan; his sisters Dorothy Tuminello and brother-in-law Mick, Geri Brown, and Tiki Shivers and brother-in-law James; his children Arturo Cervantes and daughter-in-law Dianne, Sylvia Ortega and son-in-law Roberto and Jose Cervantes and daughter-in-law Tracy; his grandchildren Steve Ortega and wife Elizabeth, Aaron Cervantes and wife Christine, Michelle Ortega, Alyssa Benavides and husband Ramon, Jessica Hernandez and husband Porfirio, Andrew Cervantes, Caleigh Cervantes, and Cole Cervantes; and four great grandchildren; Hope, Bella, Ellie, and Ramon III.
Billy was preceded in death by his sister Jaqueline Levitz.
Visitation will be 8:00 am, Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Martin Funeral Home-Montana with Funeral Service at 8:30 A.M. Interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society - El Paso Chapter, 909 E. San Antonio, El Paso, Texas 79901 .
